Growing up in church I would often wonder “Why does the preacher always seem to avoid the book of Revelation”. It seemed to me preachers would preach selected parts of the book of Revelation as they were popularly understood in the churches. No one seemed to be able to preach or connect all of Revelation or understand its messages. There appeared to be a glossing over or through Revelation. There also, appeared to be a lot of fear for the book.
I decided God would not have given us the book if he did not want us to understand it and he has not given us the spirit of fear. I recognized that the word of God is more precious than gold and silver. If we must dig and diligent search when we seek gold or silver, for certain we will need to be diligent and dig deep in order to learn the precious mysteries of God.
I also observed that most pastors and preachers taught as masters making their teachings and their words the law and unchallengeable or untestable. They made themselves the standard rather than the bible. And so, the hearer in order to be justified found himself/herself testing the bible against the pastor's words/teachings rather than vice versa. Jesus said this was not to be so for we have one master and he is Christ.
Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
I had also come to recognize that the book of Revelation was not taught a lot in churches, because pastors didn't understand the book. Lack of understanding leads to fear.
One of the reasons I suspected that pastors may fear the book of Revelation is because of the warning in it:
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
However, did God intend for us to be afraid to interpret? No. We can interpret even if we run the risk or misinterpreting, but we must acknowledge that all things written in it are true. We can say what they mean, but not that they are not or add visions or dreams to it. He did not give us the spirit of fear.
There are many critics of the bible. I knew I needed to understand the word in order to defend my faith and give an answer to the unbeliever and those who would try to destroy the faith. Scripture says this:
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
I was determined to know the word for myself and not what some man had presented to me. I needed to know if what I had been taught was a true representation or the doctrine of men. There had to be a standard and I knew it couldn't be the standard that men set themselves to be. It had to be a standard that all men could be tested. That standard is the bible. It is not my or your preacher/teacher. It is written:
Joh_6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
And so began my journey with much prayer. This series is among the first of my journey to a biblical understanding. Travel with me and see how I obtained the blessing.
I learned to be aware of three key things in Revelation..
And they are:
Salvation/Deliverance so that we can know how Revelation reveals the redemptive work of Christ for the people of generations of the saved and the restoration of Adam.
The 3 keys in Revelation are related to these 3 THINGS TO FOCUS ON:
If you truly want to understand how prophecy is fulfilled and how things will end and to prepare yourself and others, focus on these three.
Salvation/Deliverance
ITS ALL ABOUT CHRIST
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Redemption
The Bible is actually about the Jew who is Christ. Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Restoration
Again, Its about Christ
Act 3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

Why Study Prophecy and The Book of Revelation.
“SCRIPTURE OFTEN WARNS ABOUT spiritual deception (Matthew 7:15-23; 24:5; 2 Corinthians 11:4; Galatians 1:8; 1 John 4:1). God obviously does not want people to be deceived. This is one reason a study of the cults is important.”
― Ron Rhodes, Find It Quick Handbook on Cults and New Religions
“Reading and studying the Bible may not be straightforward for readers with a modern and Western background in culture and language. The biblical text in origin are ancient and Eastern—they come from a different culture and different time. The normal pattern of Hebrew literature is to consider topics in a recursive manner, which means that a topic is progressively repeated- Peter Gentry
“In studying the text, no aspect is harder to grass then literary structure. It is also difficult to communicate to audiences of today. Expository teaching must be more than communicating the content of the text; we must explain the form and show how this carries the meaning. Nowhere is this more important than in apocalyptic.”Peter Gentry, Donald L. Williams Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
When the author walks on the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right - something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise. It will be too late then to choose your side.
